Synopsis: "Earthquakes, being one of the most devastating and frequent calamities, have been of great concern to scientists and engineers for a long time. Recent earthquakes of Jammu & Kashmir, Bhuj and Uttarkashi have further increased the attention of civil engineers in the field of design and construction of earthquake resistant structures. The government of India is potentially promoting the education and research in the area of earthquake engineering through organizing various courses, workshops, seminars and conferences. In this context, the Department of Civil Engineering, Jamia Millia Islamia, New Delhi is planning to organize a National Conference on “Geotechnical and Structural Aspects of Earthquake Engineering” on August 4 & 5, 2007.
